What the extension records

The JRNL Recorder extension only captures your screen while you have explicitly clicked Start Recording. Nothing is recorded in the background, and nothing is recorded before you click that button or after you click Stop Recording.

What actually leaves your computer

After you stop recording, the extension trims your recording down to just the short window around each trade you've logged, entirely on your own device, using a local video tool (ffmpeg) that runs inside the extension. Only those short trimmed clips are uploaded, to your own JRNL account. The full, untrimmed recording never leaves your computer and is deleted from local browser storage once your clips have been created.

Where clips are stored

Clips are stored in your JRNL account's private storage, protected so that only you (while logged in) can view or download them. They are not shared with other users, not sold, and not used for advertising or analytics of any kind.

Deleting your data

You can delete any clip at any time from the Recordings section of JRNL. This permanently removes it from storage. Deleting your JRNL account removes all associated trades, journal entries, and recordings.

Extension permissions, explained

• storage: keeps you logged in between browser sessions, so you don't need to log in every time.
• desktopCapture: lets you choose a tab, window, or screen to record, only when you click Start Recording.
• offscreen: a Chrome API the extension uses to run the recording and video-trimming code; it has no visible window of its own.
• Access to JRNL's own servers: used to log you in, read your own trades (to match them against your recording), and upload your clips. The extension does not have access to any other website.
